The energy of Helen’s work arises not from the vibrancy of colour but from an instant in time. The natural hues of greys and greens have an intrinsic honest beauty for her, whilst the bright yellows and blues evoke in her a feeling of euphoria.

Helen says of her work:

“Landscape is too small a word for what inspires my painting, because, it is less about the strict visual observation and much more about my individual exposure to the environment, in which I find myself immersed, and the memories that the exposure elicits.”

Helen Glassford was born in Lancaster in 1976. After completing a Foundation course in Art and Design at Cumbria Institute of the Arts, she continued her art studies at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. She was awarded a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Drawing and Painting in 1998 and a Masters of Fine Art in 2002.

Helen has won several awards, including the Sir Robin Philipson Memorial Medal from the Royal Scottish Academy, and runner up of the largest privately funded art award in the UK: the Jolomo Lloyds TSB Landscape Painting Awards 2007. Her work has been exhibited at many solo and group exhibitions in Britain, including the Royal Scottish Academy Open Exhibition, and the Affordable Art Fair, London.
