This oil painting was completed in 1996. It is an impressionistic piece which depicts a selection of bright red gladioli in a glass vase in front of a lit candle on a dark background. The flickering light of the candle throws a soft yellow light on the gladioli and vase, creating shades of orange to complement the red flowers and the yellow-green leaves. The short brushstrokes are strong and thick and the colours are vivid.
