Born in Glasgow, Elspeth Lamb studied at the Glasgow School of Art before gaining a postgraduate diploma from Manchester. She later studied Stone Lithography at the Ruskin School of Drawing in Oxford before returning to the Glasgow School of Art to teach. Following this, she went on to lecture in Printmaking at the Edinburgh College of Art. She was head of the Printmaking department in Edinburgh for many years before leaving to pursue her own interests more fully. Many of her works use an ambiguous symbolism to invoke questions of femininity.
She has since exhibited her lithographs, drawings, etchings, watercolours, chine-colles and screenprints extensively throughout Europe, the USA and even Australia.
