Katie Watson graduated from Gray's School of Art in 2016 and won the Art in Healthcare purchase prize, with funding from the Turtleton Trust.
The Frontier appears to highlight the superimposition of abstract and architectural forms into natural environment. The juxtaposition of individual and circular forms with the layering of precise and repetitive triangulation indicates the impact of human nature into the natural environment.
'At different times man has considered itself separate from nature and a part of nature. This can be evidenced by the extent that nature is controlled in landscape architecture and its representations in art. In my painting I analyse attitudes concerning the place of the human race in nature – and, in a way, also the characters who hold these attitudes – through subjects of human intervention within landscapes and landscape’s gradual domestication (farmland, gardens, deforestation, Land art, etc.)'- Katie Watson
