Rowan's works can be viewed in at least two ways, we may focus in the playfulness of colour and light, and the balancing of tones and lines in a beautiful gentle rhythm or we can focus entirely on the effects that her works achieve - Rowan's works will not leave you indifferent, they are determined to influence your surroundings and even your mood, convey warmth or cold as you choose but they will not remain unnoticed.

'My practice focuses around the physical exploration of material and paints. A fixation with bright colour and quality of light plays the focal role in my practice. The abstract compositions speak of experience and light. I use many materials such as light reflective paint, copper, fluorescent acrylic, iridescent papers, led lighting tubes, genuine gesso, glitter etc. My work is abstract and speaks of experience rather more than describing a particular place, object or event. The experience of compositional colour, light and space within the gallery are interpreted on an emotive level. Self-aware of the "camp" stereotyped qualities it possess, my work plays upon this. I make traditional Genuine-Gesso surfaces to paint upon, favoured for its natural muted tone but mostly the smooth surface where any textures I make in painting are intentional. This intensive layering and sanding process takes many days but is itself a crucial part of the painting process. The balance in abstract painting interests me greatly as it alters the typical sensations created by a colour. It allows audiences to experience the painting in a unique and stimulating way each re-occurring time and encourages a new interpretation of a colour or material group typically associated with a certain human or otherwise stereotype. I work on many pieces at once and continuously move between them, painting until I the body of work as a whole achieves the equally bright and balanced state desired' Rowan Rosie
