Richard Demarco, born in Edinburgh in 1930, has contributed significantly to the contemporary art world on an international platform. In the 1960's he established the Richard Demarco Gallery and since the early 1990's, his work has all been carried out through the Demarco European Art Foundation. As well as being a professor at Kingston University, Demarco has attended or been involved with the Edinburgh Festival every year since its inception. He has received awards such as the Order of the British Empire and Chevalier des Arts et Lettres de France in recognition of his contributions to contemporary art.
