Bird and Sacrifices is a large artwork on canvas deaturing a myriad of influences and elements that are used to create intricate and delicate layers. Maki uses a number of techniques, such as hiragana, cut-out paper, buttons and felt to express themes related to fantasy and reality verus light and dark.  

Maki is currently based in her hometown of Fukuoka, Japan having lived in the UK for several years, studying at Camberwell College of Arts in London and then Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a First Class Degree in 2007.
