Soft Sculpture: Art therapy?
Soft Sculpture: Art therapy?
Here are some drawings
But what so you see?
Perception is different
For you and for me.
I see a dog
Wearing a hat
But when you look,
You may not see that.
Looking at image
Number two,
I see fish,
How about you?
As for the third-
A robot with slit eyes,
But when you look,
He may be in disguise!
What can you make
From a sock and a band?
Maybe an abstract
No-one understands…
….but that does not matter,
As you’ll have had fun,
Make soft sculptures
Then try to draw one.
Perhaps if you turned
Your paper around,
A different image
You may have found.
If you are bored,
Confused or perplexed
Make a soft sculpture
And see what you get.
By the time you have finished
Your mind may have cleared
And your woes and you your worries
May not feel so near.
Riser Recliner
One of my positive places
Is my riser recliner chair.
Everyday I do positive things
When I’m sitting there
The first thing I do is smile
As I know I have managed downstairs.
My PA has switched on my heat pad
And my riser recliner’s prepared
It has an inflatable cushion
Which helps to ease my pain,
I take a break, unpack my bags
And feel ready to smile once again.
From my riser recliner
I take any pills I have missed –
Pain relief’s an essential
Before checking my daily lists.
For each day I have an agenda,
So that if my memory’s bad
I can work my way through the list
And simply choose to be glad.
From my riser recliner
I can eat my favourite Food,
My PA brings my breakfast
And again I smile and feel good.
From my riser recliner
I connect with family and friends,
I prefer to use the telephone,
But will email now and then.
I’ve also learned new things
From my riser recliner too –
I’ve learned how to Zoom and use Facebook,
And through these there’s much I can do.
I can get creative
With my art group every week
With my riser recliner in position,
A link from Sally I seek.
My PA will fetch me over
Paper, pens, paint or ink.
I have prepared for my art class
And I have arrived through the link.
I see familiar faces,
We wave and say hello,
On my tray is my tablet
And we are set to go!
Our teacher Sally is lovely
And encourages everyone.
Yes, from my riser recliner
I have lots of fun.
On Monday nights I’ve a writers’ group
Which I do from my favourite chair,
I speak with writers around the world,
We have stories we can share.
On Tuesday mornings I have class
On basic computer skills.
My chair is set up once again,
Learning is such a thrill.
From here I can also watch TV,
And although I may fall asleep
I can be happy and peaceful,
As I’ve had a busy week.
