Artists Sketchbook

2022

Image from an artists sketchbook journal I made recently which felt quite cathartic in many ways.

‘Gather’ is a good way to describe it indeed, prints made from seasonal foliage I have gathered around North Edinburgh’s gardens, parks and cycletracks.

I added two old reproductions of historic maps which were crucial in proving the historic horticultural use of Granton Castle Walled garden during the community campaign to safeguard it from development for luxury housing. The stress of trying to fight a battle with a development company and wade through the planning system at the time was great and left its emotional scars.

Was a great joy to make this little botanical sketchbook and remember the positive reasons we fought, gathering many times to meet and make a strategy to allow the city council to come to a good decision.

Since 2017 we have been able to create an outdoor haven for people to gather, grow, dream and learn together. The walled garden is where I grow my dyeplants and take inspiration for botanical art.
