Wendy Halstead, Corn on the Cob, Pencil on Paper, 1988

< Back to Unfurling | Curated by Hannah Draper

A leaf curls back to reveal the plump kernels of corn beneath, the rest is still encased by paper leaves, protecting the corn in a ritualistic circle that dances overhead. The simplistic yet evocative line drawing gives a feeling of reverence to the corn on the cob, asking us to observe and admire it more closely.

Can you imagine the papery sensation of the leaves, and the smoothness of the corn underneath?
What sound might they make when you peeled them back?
