Freelance Exhibition Curator [March and April 2025]
Fee of £3,150.00
The Organisation
At Art in Healthcare, we are excited and motivated by the possibilities that art provides to support the health and wellbeing of everyone living in Scotland. Over the last thirty years we have worked to improve health and wellbeing for individuals and communities by providing opportunities to experience and engage with high quality visual art, artists and creativity. More information can be found at www.artinhealthcare.org.uk
The Role
You will work closely with the Art in Healthcare team to curate an exhibition that raises awareness of, and shares learning from, our programme Taking Art Home. The project, funded by Creative Scotland, allowed us to make our art collection and creative workshops available to adults living with long Covid and those with long-term conditions that find it very difficult to leave the house in Scotland. We want to share the voices and experiences of those with long term conditions who were at the heart of the programme.
You will work with the Art in Healthcare Collection, a range of resources and short films created during the programme and work created by participants in the programme to produce an exhibition that shares the programme with a wider audience. The exhibition will take place in April 2025 in a community or health space and will also be on-line [ensuring that all individuals involved in the programme can access it]. We are looking for someone to work with us to:
- Review the range of potential exhibition content
- Communicate with programme participants to ensure that the exhibition reflects their experiences and interests
- Identify, and develop, key themes
- Once agreed, with the wider team, develop all aspects of the exhibition including associated interpretation
- Liaise with the exhibition venue
- Oversee the logistics of exhibition install and deinstall [with the support of our Administrator]
- Support marketing for the exhibition and associated opening event
Skills and Experience
Ideally, you’ll bring the following experience and skills:
- An interest in the work of Art in Healthcare
- An understanding of how art and creativity can support health and wellbeing
- Relevant lived experience
- Experience of working with an art collection
- Experience of producing exhibitions in non-gallery spaces
- The ability to write engaging and accessible copy
