We are very pleased to be working with Fiona Hermse to develop and deliver a pilot project “Make It Better”, from August to December 2023. Working in partnership with NHS Fife we will be testing how best to provide meaningful creative opportunities for adults in ward settings within Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline.
We asked Fiona to pick a work from the collection to share. She chose “On the Town Trawler” by Ginny Elston.
Fiona:
I chose this piece as it really stood out in the collection for me. It is the perfect combination of order and chaos, contrast and harmony. I love the balance of white and black, the cool aqua with the warm pink shades. geometry with order and large, organic splashes with fine drizzles of criss-crossing paint. I also love the space and depth and sense that we are looking through ‘windows’ in areas of the canvas. As well as being optimistic, it somehow has a slight sense of foreboding which is yet another contrast in the piece.
I am working on a project with Art in Healthcare called ‘Make it Better’ which involves coordinating and facilitating creative workshops with older patients at Queen Margaret’s Hospital in Dunfermline. Works from the collection will be used as a key part of the project. It is great to be able to use the works as such a rich source of inspiration.
