We are so pleased to have Jeni Allison join the team to lead on the Taking Art Home project. We asked Jeni to pick a work form the collection to share. She chose Richard Spare’s “Daisy Basket”.
Jeni: “Hello, I’m Jeni and I’ve just started working at Art in Healthcare on a project called Taking Art Home. Taking Art Home is a project which will co-design a programme of participatory and curatorial opportunities with adults living with long Covid and older adults living in residential care homes over the next year. I will be delivering creative art workshops both remotely (to individuals living with long Covid Scotland-wide) and in person (to individuals living in residential care homes in South Lanarkshire). These workshops will be participant-led and will respond to the participant’s interests and feedback. I’ll also work with Art in Healthcare’s curator to explore ways of introducing the collection to the participants, with the potential for participants to loan artworks for their domestic spaces for up to a year.
I’ve only had one visit to our collection store so far, but a piece which jumped out to me was Richard Spare’s Daisy Basket. I love the thick black lines with the water-y colour and was amazed to learn that he was an assistant of David Hockney’s and produced some of his prints. It was hard to choose just one though – another great piece was Border Show by Carola Gordon which is an appliquéd depiction of a farm show which I can’t stop thinking about. I can’t wait to explore more of the collection as the project progresses.”
