We are looking for ‘Room for Art’ Workshop Volunteers

Room for Art is a social prescribing project run by Art in Healthcare. Based in Edinburgh, we provide visual arts on a weekly basis to adults in at least seven areas of the city, with the aim of improving people’s health and wellbeing.

All of our Room for Art workshops are free and delivered by a professional visual artist. The sessions are tailored to the interests of the group and participants are encouraged to explore and experiment with different art techniques.

Volunteer Role

To support the artists delivering the workshop. This is purely an assistant role – you would never be expected to deliver a workshop yourself.

Specific tasks in workshops

• Help with set up and tidy:
• Moving tables and chairs
• Lay out and tidy away materials
• Wash up of materials and teas and coffees
• Make teas and coffees for participants
• Chat to participants and join in with activity to make your own art
• Assist people with their artwork when required i.e. finding specific materials
• Undertake the occasional sort out of materials and help artist with orders
• Assist with observation forms and any other evaluation
• Attend sharing events with other volunteers and artists

• A PVG certificate if you don’t already have one

What we are looking for in you

• Great communication skills and enjoyment talking to people
• A clear and friendly manner
• A passion for supporting people and an enthusiasm for Art in Healthcare and Room for art
• Reliability and good timekeeping
• Commitment to a weekly workshop for a minimum of 10 weeks (3 hours of your time each week including set up and tidy up)

Where we are currently looking for support

• Mondays 1 – 3pm at North Edinburgh Arts in Muirhouse
• Wednesdays 12.30 – 2.30pm at Whale Arts in Wester Hailes
